Nocturne and Toccata
Written in 1954, these two pieces were part of a set of three, along with the Prélude en arpèges Op.62, which were going to become a Harp Suite Op.18 (a style of playing, not music for harp!). This project didn't proceed. The Toccata was written to test John Williams' technique, which came through with flying colours. The manuscript of the Nocturne has 'dedicated to John Williams' written on it.
