English Suite
Written between 1959-1962 and dedicated 'To Andrés Segovia and his wife on the occasion of their marriage'. This work had an extended birth and was changed several times before achieving its final version. A detailed account of its composition can be found in Andrés Segovia, as I knew him by Duarte, published by Mel Bay Publications (96596EB).
In an article in Soundboard, November 1981, Duarte suggested some tempo changes to those in the printed scores.
I - Prelude - Tempo I, minim = 40. Molto meno mosso, crotchet = 66
II - Folk Song - Tempo I, crotchet = 76. Poco più mosso, crotchet = 92
III - Round Dance - Tempo I, dotted crotchet = 112. Lirico, as printed. 11 bars from the end, Tempo I, or faster.
