When the Twain Meet

Written in 1977 at the request of Glenda Simpson (mezzo-soprano) and Barry Mason (lute) for the 1978 series of Westmoreland Concerts, arranged by the Royal Academy of Music, London. They requested settings by the English poet and composer, Thomas Campion and provided Duarte with a set of his poems, from which four were chosen from the Third and Fourth Books of Ayres, 1617. They depict various facets of human love and desire. This arrangement, for high voice and guitar, was made in 1992.
