Sonatina del Sur

Written in 1984 as a birthday present for the Argentinean guitarist, María Isabel Siewers, and commissioned by her mother. The music pays token, rather than imitative, homage to South American music. The 2nd movement is played entirely in harmonics and Duarte intended the 3rd movement to be a Milonga, but Siewers said it wasn't really one, so he renamed it.
