Written in 1978 at the request of Raymond Burley (guitar) and Stephen Bell (harpsichord). During late 1967 Segovia suggested that Duarte and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco should write works based on one another's themes. Castelnuovo-Tedesco's theme (dated 18 February 1968) arrived in February 1968 but, unfortunately, he died on 17 March 1968. The theme lay unused for 10 years and then became the subject of variations. 'Insieme' in Italian means' together' and the collaboration of two composers and two instrumentalists seemed appropriate.

Theme; I - Un poco agitato; II - Alla marcia; III - Largo e dignitoso; IV - Scherzoso; V - Alla siciliana; VI - Finale.
