Epitaph for Manuel M. Ponce
Written in 1948 and first printed in the 'Guitar Review' (No.8) 1949 memorial edition for Ponce, who had died the previous year. This is the second part of a two-part composition, the first part was written by Terence (Terry) Usher, Duarte's only guitar teacher. The music was based on the sentence, "We mourn the loss of a friend - but his Music restores him to us". Duarte's piece is based on the second part of the sentence and takes a fragment of Usher's piece and intertwines it with one of Ponce's last compositions, Rondino (Matinal).
