Concerto Democratico
Written in 1990 for the Prague Guitar Quartet, who commissioned the work and to whom it is also dedicated. The Quartet requested a piece that was 'jazz-flavoured' and for musical lines with the same level of ability. The Democratico of the title refers to the equal sharing out of the compositional material and not the 'Velvet Revolution' which had just taken place in Czechoslovakia.
This commission was funded by The Arts Council of Great Britain.
